History of 16 Herbert Street

Subhas Chandra Bose is known to have stayed at this address. He had been a student at Fitzwilliam House. In the 1921 census he is resident in Lancashire. he resigned from the Indi Civil Service on 22nd April 1921 and returned to India. [Other sources suggest that Bose stayed at 5 Herbert Street but the letter seems to demonstrate that he lived at no.16].
